Happy Deepavali..

Staff committee meeting…..29 September 2008

Vivian and I think, we can do a Kolam for Deepavali…* silent*

Day 1…15 October 2008…………..6.30pm…………….After work.

Will full support from the management had cooperation from all staff welfare committee, we set of to work with 6kg of coloured rice grain, nine pieces of A4 paper printed with the graphic that we had drawn, two sharp pencils, rulers, mahjong paper and others. This is the first time we will be doing a Kolam and with all hopes it will turn out fine if not fabulous.

9.30pm….

After 3 hours of hard works and answering the same questions over and over again, we decided to call it for the day as the office is about to close. Basically, questions asked are as below:
Q1. What is that? Sand?grain?
Ans1: There’re grain, dyed using clothes dye and food dye. We have a total of nine colours all together.
Q2. What is it for?
Ans2: It’s for Deepavali, festival of colour.
Q3. Did you guys put glu on it? Or you can put glu and spinkle around to get the picture.
Ans3: No, we didn’t use any glu. It is arranged slowly, bits by bits and grain by grain. Totally, hand-made.

Pic1 : First day effort before touch up.

Day 2…16 October 2008…………..6.00pm…………….After work.
Armed with more warriors this time, we work together filling in the Kolam slowly as we share laughter and encouragement along the process. Happy Deepavali signage was set up and candles were placed around the Kolam.

With a final touch of gold dust sprinkle on top, around and on the peacock’s eye, we had successfully completed our Kolam for the year after nearly six hours of work and weeks of preparations.
It may not be the best Kolam you’ve seen but it’s the best the staff committee has given.

8.30pm…
Home and feeling satisfied.

Happy early Deepavali..
